2 ton floor jack
Two ton means two thousand lb per US short ton. Two ton capacity equals 4,000 lb [1,814 kg]. That is lift capacity at the saddle. It is not a support rating. Use jack stands after lifting.
Simple guide to the two ton class. It covers what two ton means, the right lift range for your vehicle, and linked models. All numbers show dual units. Native unit first with the conversion in brackets.
Capacity check example
A 3,600 lb [1,633 kg] car places about 1,800 lb [816 kg] on the front axle at mid balance. One lift point under a control arm can see about 900 to 1,200 lb [about 408 to 544 kg]. A two ton jack covers that with margin when you follow the manual.
What 2 ton means
A floor jack raises part of the vehicle. It is not a support device. Set rated stands under maker approved points and lower the load onto the stands before any work.
Two ton capacity covers most compact cars and many sedans. It can lift one corner or one axle on many small crossovers. Bigger trucks need a 3 ton floor jack or 4 ton floor jack for reach and lift height. Always check your vehicle manual and the jack manual.
Quick selector
| Vehicle type | Minimum saddle height to target | Maximum lift you will want |
|---|---|---|
| Lowered car | about 3 in to 3.5 in [about 76 to 89 mm] | about 18 in to 20 in [about 457 to 508 mm] |
| Sedan or compact crossover | about 3.5 in to 4.5 in [about 89 to 114 mm] | about 18 in to 22 in [about 457 to 559 mm] |
| Half ton pickup or large SUV | about 4.5 in to 5.5 in [about 114 to 140 mm] | about 22 in to 24 in [about 559 to 610 mm] |
If your minimum height needs are above 5 in a three ton jack often fits better.
